Many people dream of buying a property abroad Often it’s for a holiday home or sometimes to retire to. Living in the UK you can understand why. The weather is usually better abroad!

Even with global warming the British summers are uncertain. Sure we get baking hot summers but then again we get wet soggy ones too. No surprising that we look with envy at the more certain summers on the continent.

There are many reasons why you might like to buy property in Portugal. The prices have been reasonable and the beaches are long and sandy. And if you’re looking for something a little quieter there are plenty of stunning mountain retreats to be had for a reasonable price.

If you want to be closer to home then buying property in France has always been popular. It’s just a short hop over the Channel by plane or by ferry and you’re in a different world with cheaper food and plenty of wine.

At the moment the property market worldwide is in a bit of a slump and you may think that now is a bad time to buy but this isn’t necessarily so especially if you are looking for a retirement property. With the drop in prices you may well be able to pick up a bargain or buy a bigger place than you could afford to a couple of years ago.

Just do your research and don’t allow yourself to be rushed. As this is now a buyers’ market you are now in control and can reap the benefits.
